DEWEY CITY "WALK & TALK"

On June 8, 2024, The Thomasville Community Development Corporation(TCDC)

sponsored a community “Walk and Talk” featuring the historic community of

Dewey City. This neighborhood is filled with an abundance of historic treasures

and milestones. For example the first public school for Blacks in Thomasville,

Douglass High School, and the first community to allow ex-slaves to own land.

Our goal in organizing these walks is to establish a collaborative relationship

with the community members and stakeholders. Moreover, we want those who

are not familiar with Dewey City to understand that this community is loaded

with assets, in terms of people and place. To create an economically sustainable

economy for Thomasville, all of our neighbors within our community must

have access to affordable housing and capital in order to fuel generational wealth and

establish striving businesses.

The Dewey City “Walk and Talk” was an example a collaborative effort in honoring history and igniting the fuel for progess. We want to thank all of the people that help us make this event a success.
